Ball, Garry E (1941-1981) blue bowl, stoneware, signed GE Ball on bottom, good condition, no chips or cracks, bowl size: 3 x 11 x 11 inches. Ball was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Topeka and spent his childhood in Assaria, KS. He graduated from Assaria High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Fort Hays State University. He did graduate work in ceramics at Emporia State Teachers College. Ball had permanent displays at the Birger Sandzen Gallery in Lindsborg and galleries in New York City and in Jamaica.Throughout his career he exhibited his work at many art shows including the invitational University of Kansas Art Show and the Smoky Hill River Festival. He received the sweepstakes awards for three consecutive years from the Festival. Two of Mr. Ball’s crystalline pots are part of Salina’s public arts collection.Ball taught art in public high schools in Clay Center and Cheney for 10 years and was head of the ceramics department at the Wichita Art Association for eight years. For the past three years Mr. Ball had exhibited his works, some with an innovative process of crystalline glazes, at his Wichita gallery.
