Greg Nelson (1956 – ) is a Kansas photographer working primarily with large format film cameras in both landscape and studio settings. Self-taught while in college at Kansas State University, he studied the works and writings of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Dick Arentz and others to become proficient in view camera work, darkroom techniques and black and white printing processes. He later became interested in alternative photographic processes, and found that the beauty and depth achieved in palladium printing best suits his vision. The palladium printing method originated in the mid-1800s but faded from use with the commercial availability of silver-based photographic papers.Though somewhat unpredictable and labor-intensive in use, the last 30 years have seen platinum and palladium printing regain favor simply because of image quality and uniqueness. They are among the most permanent of printed imagesGreg’s palladium prints are limited to editions of 10. He continues to photograph and work in alternative processes, residing in Topeka, KS. Proceeds from the auctioning of this framed print will be donated to benefit the Red Barn Gallery.
