Growing up in the Smoky Valley in Central Kansas as a child sitting barefoot in her father’s freshly plowed furrows, Keller loved the smell of the earth and the feel and glow of the dark brown gloss of the soil cast in the sunlight. Keller studied clay in high school where my art teacher, Richard Luster, first influenced her to become a clay artist.Keller attended clay workshops and studied clay with some of the best clay artists in the country: Gordon Zahradnik, Ray Kahmeyer (Kansas Artists) and Warren McKenzie, Phillipe Faraut, Lincoln Fox, Walt Horton, and Bruno Lucchesi, all nationally recognized for their outstanding sculpture. She also studied sculpture at Hutchinson Community College and the Wichita Center for the Arts.
