A retired school teacher, Mr. Jacob taught music, band and chorus in Broken Bow, Nebraska for nine years and for one year in Holbrook. His last years of teaching were at Southeast High School, Wichita, Kansas. He began teaching at Southeast High School the year the school opened. Art as an avocation eventually moved Howard into the teaching of the Humanities, Art History and Art after directing band and orchestra at Southeast High School for eight years. Howard was a teacher at Southeast High School for twenty-two years. He retired from teaching in 1979. Mr. Jacob received a B.A. degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, in 1940; served in the Naval Air Corps from 1941 to 1946; completed an M.M. degree from the University of Nebraska in 1947; and has also taken several art courses at Emporia State University. Art continues to be a hobby with Howard Jacob. He says, "It keeps me off the streets…." The Sandzen Gallery is very pleased to be able to feature a second show of Howard’s clay animals this spring as part of the annual Midwest Art Exhibition at the Sandzen Gallery.
