Description
Hallberg, Charles (1855-1940) untitled sea scape, 1909 oil on canvas, signed in lower right, good condition, canvas size: 18 x 24 inches. Charles E. Hallberg was born in Gothenberg, Sweden. At the age of seventeen he became a sailor. He arrived in America in 1892. It was not until many years later that he made Chicago his home. In Chicago he acquired and maintained a position in a bank.A man of genuine talent, he did not paint seriously until he was forty-five. After that he exhibited extensively with Swedish-American groups in the Chicago area. Three of his paintings are owned by the National Museum in Stockholm, the Gotheborg Museum, and the Museum at Vaxjo, Sweden.
