This original linocut by artist Lydia Deere is titled "Sahuaro". In fair condition, the image measures 5.5" x 4.5" and is pencil signed by the artist in the lower left corner of the piece. Shipping estimates are available upon request.Born in Holmes City, Minnesota on August 22, 1873 and died in Lindsborg, Kansas, July, 1943, Lydia Deere was a teacher and a painter who specialized in landscapes and floral still lifes.
Her family moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1880, and she earned a BA from McPherson College. She moved to Lindsborg and opened a millinery store and then was principal and teacher at the Lane Hart Women’s Dormitory in 1907.
She married Professor Emil O. Deere of Lindsborg and earned a BFA from Bethany College in 1923. She was employed as an instructor in art at Bethany College, Lindsborg, 1924-31.
