Svoboda, Vincent (1877-1961) "Indians Fording a Stream" etching, 1932, image size is 9" x 11.25" and is in good condition with mild toning. Born in Czechoslovakia, Vincent A. Svoboda came to this country as a boy. He received three prizes when he graduated from the National Academy of Design. Later he studied in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and in Paris, where he worked with Mucha, the Czechoslovak poster artist. In 1925 and 1937 Svoboda won Salmagundi Club awards. He belonged also to the Allied Artists of America and the Cartoonists Club. Initially he did illustrations for the old New York American, Harper’s Magazine and the Saturday Evening Post. In the 1920’s, he did posters for motion picture theaters. He was a former cartoonist with the Brooklyn Eagle from 1940 to 1952.While the Raymer Society makes every effort to offer authentic, original artwork it is ultimately the bidders responsible for assessing and determining the work of art’s authenticity, condition and quality before purchasing.
