Summer storm, a watercolor/ink is signed "Fred W Peterson" lower right, is in good condition, 7.75×11.75. Fred W. Peterson is an award winning accomplished artist, author and art historian. He is a founding faculty member of the University of Minnesota, Morris, beginning as an assistant professor in studio art and art history. Over the years, Fred’s talents and contributions helped shape the humanities department at UMM and as curator of the campus HFA art gallery, he was instrumental in bringing unique exhibits that makes it a regional showcase to this day. Fred has since retired from teaching, but continues to create works of art. His work has ranged from traditional to abstract landscape, divinations, improvisations and multiples, structural rural landscape to crafting relief diptych portals and passages depicting spiritual change and transformation. Currently, Fred explores the richness of oil pastels, evolving his work to capture the natural wonder and grace of midwestern glacial hills and prairie. His work is part of many public collections throughout Minnesota, as well as private collections in the United States, Canada, Eastern and Western Europe and Australia. Fred is author of “Homes In The Heartland”, a captivating explanation of the revolutionary balloon frame house construction that swept across Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin from 1850 to 1920 and “Building Community, Keeping The Faith” an in-depth study of German Catholic vernacular architecture in a rural Minnesota parish.
