"Evening" is a woodcut by Birger Sandzén, in fair condition with heavy overall toning, titled "Evening" in lower right and pencil signed "Birger Sandzen" lower left, measuring 6×9. Total dimensions are 15×17.25×1. 1871-1954, Birger Sandzen was a painter, specifically landsca[es, etcher, engraver, lithographer, and teacher. Sandzen moved from Sweden to Lindsborg where he taught French, voice, art history, drawing and painting at Bethany College where he remained on the faculty until 1946. Sandzen’s style of painting is unusual in its thick and heavy application of impasto in bold and bright color combinations, interpreting the landscape of the western United States.
Condition: fair condition, with heavy overall toning
