"Man of Sorrows, " by Signe Larson, an etching, in good condition with some all over toning, pencil signed "Signe Larson" lower right, measuring 5.75×4. Total dimensions are 17.25×134.25×2.25. (1908-1993) Painter, spec. religious subjects and landscapes. Studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, at the Univ of Colorado, and at Washington University in St. Louis. Received special training from John Folinsbe, Harry Leith-Ross and Carlos Lopez. Moved with her family to Lindsborg in 1927 where she studied with Birger Sandzen at Bethany College from 1927-33 and earned a BFA. She also took classes at Bethany in 1945-46. Although deaf since birth, with the help from her sister Elvira, Larson presented chalk lectures throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe for forty years to more than 1000 groups. Her most famous work was a head of Christ that she named "Thy Kingdom Come." This work was reproduced in magazines, as church bulletin covers, in booklets and cards. She also painted several altar paintings as well as landscapes of Colorado and Kansas. Member: Prairie Water Color Painters.
