Lydia Deer (1873-1943) "The Old Farmstead" lithogragh, pencil signed in lower right, good condition, image: 11×15. Lydia Sohlberg-Deere was born in Holmes City, Minnesota on August 22, 1873 and died in Lindsborg, Kansas, July, 1943, Lydia Deere was a teacher and a painter who specialized in landscapes and floral still lifes. Her family moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1880, and she earned a BA from McPherson College. She moved to Lindsborg and opened a millinery store and then was principal and teacher at the Lane Hart Women’s Dormitory in 1907. She married Professor Emil O. Deere of Lindsborg and earned a BFA from Bethany College in 1923. She was employed as an instructor, with Sandzen, in art at Bethany College, Lindsborg, 1924-31.
