Description
Deere, Lydia (1873-1943) Sandzen student landscape, oil on board, signed in lower left, good condition, some overall crazing in paint, board size: 18 x 24 inches. Born in Holmes City, Minnesota on August 22, 1873 and died in Lindsborg, Kansas, July, 1943, Lydia Deere was a teacher and a painter who specialized in landscapes and floral still lifes.Her family moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1880, and she earned a BA from McPherson College. She moved to Lindsborg and opened a millinery store and then was principal and teacher at the Lane Hart Women’s Dormitory in 1907.She married Professor Emil O. Deere of Lindsborg and earned a BFA from Bethany College in 1923. She was employed as an instructor in art at Bethany College, Lindsborg, 1924-31.
