Description
Bannelier, Yvonne (1906-) untitled portrait of Birger Sanzen, lithograph, pencil signed in lower left, good condition, some toning, no mat or frame, image size: 10 x 7 inches. Yvonne Bannelier was born in France. She attended multiple art schools in Paris including the Elisa Lemonnier Design School. She came to the US in 1927 to stay with her sister, Marie-Louise McDaniel, in Pratt, Kansas. Soon after her arrival, she was introduced to Birger and Alfrida Sandzén. That summer she and her sister spent time with the Sandzén’s in Estes Park, Colorado. Using her Paris training, she began showing her art in the region. She married Benjamin Wood in 1929 and the couple lived in Lawrence, Kansas, before moving to Madison, Wisconsin. While there, she continued to exhibit her art, taught at the Colt School of Art, and worked for Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1930s. She left the United States in 1935, returned to France, and remarried.
