Zona Lorraine Wheeler, (1913-1998) "Buddha’s Hand" 1968,Photomechanical lithograph, signed in lower right, good condition, Zona Lorraine Wheeler grew up on the family farm at Bridgeport, Kansas. Her parents Carl and Caroline Wheeler encouraged her development and interest in art. Zona was a student of Birger Sandzén and graduated from Bethany College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and the first Commercial Art Certificate.She later studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Wichita Center for the Arts School. Travels and development of drawings and sketches as well as paintings contributed to her shows and exhibitions.Her desire to be both a commercial artist and a studio artist was met by thirty-five years as a designer for the McCormick Armstrong Company, Inc. in Wichita, and several fine exhibitions of her art. By the end of her career as a commercial artist in 1978 she had become the head of the department at McCormick Armstrong. Her talents and skills as a designer were widely recognized and appreciated.After her retirement she began her 3-D Studio, specializing in three-dimensional art and logos.Zona exhibited at art directors clubs in Wichita, Colorado Springs, Halstead, and Topeka. She is listed in Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in American Women. She received the Matix Award, Women in Communications, Wichita in 1971, and the Bethany College Alumni Award of Merit in 1970.
